I was wondering if napa or schucks carries the filters yet, or if we need to go to the dealer.
Also, one would assume that the crush washer(for the oil plug) would come with the filter kit, as it does with BMW ect.

I actually ordered them through hyundaiparts.net as dealers in Canada seem to be charging over $20 a filter. The cost of the crush washer is negligible, but they are sold seperately. Maybe you can get them to throw it in.

I had to go to the dealer to get mine. When I asked about the washer, they just threw it in with it.

Using OEM parts only helps to ensure that your warranty will remain valid. Well worth it for the price and hassle of driving to the dealership instead of the auto parts store.

Hi Silver FE,
Thanks for the info. I'll order some also. Did you order a case? How about the crush washers for 07 Santa Fe. They don't seem to have these two items priced online. Only the single filter...

No I just ordered 10. I actually forgot to purchase the crush washers. I went to the dealer and got a package of them.

besides the crush washer, and the oil filter, you need to order the "o' ring kit for the filter as well.
I can't wail until the aftermnarket filters arrive. They will have the "o' rings ,and the crush washer in the same box as the oil filter(such as BMW)

According to hyundaiparts.net, the O-ring's are part of the filter kit. Will see when I get it. Or perhaps Silver FE can enlighten us?

I was here thinking to myself what the heck you guys were talking about 2 "O rings" and decided to go find a picture of the oil filter.

:w00t:

Now that's a change from the many filters I've changed in my past. Do any other vehicles use a setup like that? I must say, I like it. No more crawling under the car.

Nevermind... I think only the 3.3L has the cool filter. My 2.7L has the normal "crawl under and get dirty" type. :crying:

Hyundai seems to have abandoned the crush washers. I ordered washers from hyundaiparts.net and the ones I received were plain flat steel. This change was verified by a message on the alt.autos.hyundai newsgroup.

By the way, how do you drain the oil without crawling under the car?

Draining the oil is not the problem... you get really dirty when you take the filter out. No matter what I tried, I always get the stream of oil running down my arm. :w00t:

Yeah they are just steel washers. I'm not sure what you were expecting though. My honda crush washers were the same. Do you have a 2.7 or 3.3. With the 3.3 I had to crawl under and undo the drain plug.

I didn't know what to expect either, but the term "crush" washer implied to me something fancier than an ordinary flat steel washer.

Wow, some of you have really greedy dealers. Ours here in west Ottawa charges just under $10 (plus tax) for a Hyundai filter, o-rings and washer for the 3.3.

I haven't changed my own oil in years, but I started again when I saw how easy it was on the Santa Fe. It saves me a lot of time when no other maintenance is required... 20 minutes and I'm done!
