we bought our Sonata in March of '06 and we've had it in twice for a limp driver's side visor. Dealer claims they've seen the problem a lot.

I bought my 07 Sonata new, 13 months ago. A couple of months ago, the driver side visor went "crack" as I adjusted it, and then went limp. Last month, at the one-year mark, the passenger side visor did the same thing.

My dealer (Tony Hyundai) had to order the visors, both times, but replaced both for free. No drama, excellent service both times.

I notice a different finish on the new visors, a rougher texture than the felt-like feel of the originals. Feels nicer, actually, like it's better finished.

I asked the service rep, and he confessed that it wasn't the first time they've had to replace visors. The plastic ratcheting mechanism isn't a good idea, too cheap. Hopefully it's not what they use on the Azera and the Genesis.

Considering the car's good value, and the fact that in the first year I've only had two things wrong with it (the visors, and the car refusing to start in certain situations), and they were both quickly resolved by the dealer, for free, I can't really complain.

A friend of mine owns a Lexus RX, and it's in the shop for little stuff, every couple of months. Same with a BMW 525 that a co-worker drives. All things considered, my Sonata is doing fine.

i actually almost never use my sun visors... maybe twice total... im usually driving away from the sun in both directions to and from work, so I dont really need to use mine much, and when i do, my sunglasses work fine...

Since I'm a tall guy, I rarely use the sunvisor and can pretty much rely on the tinted windshield band for coverage :P

I just noticed the same problem with my 2006 Sonata LX. I have sent an email to my dealer to see if he has the part in stock before I setup an appointment. We will see if I get a response. Thanks for the good info here!

My driver's side visor broke over three weeks ago (very rarely used), I was fairly close to my dealer so I took it in that day. I was told I'd receive a call when the part came in... yet to receive said call and starting to get pi$$ed.
I actually removed the damned thing yesterday. You'd figure since safety is an issue with something like this, that they would jump all over it. But, since they get paid either way, public safety isn't an issue.
This isn't the first time I've gotten angry at my dealer, but the next closest one is an hour away and it's ran by the same guy. Some things are just futile it seems.

Sometimes I feel like I'd have an easier time climbing a tree backwards.

My visor on the driver side had been hanging down partially since the day I purchased the car. It never really bothered me (as it didn't block my vision) but I did put a call in to the dealership Tuesday to have it corrected and the replacement came in today. I took my car to the dealership and they installed the replacement...which fits very snuggly against the roof.

All is well in my Hyundai world

Why don't you try calling them and asking if your part came in? Service departments see hundreds of customers in a week, and it's possible someone just got busy and forgot to call you. Nobody's perfect.

The sunvisor issue is very common on the Sonatas. If you are going to call or email your dealer to see if the part is in stock, please have your VIN number available to give to them, as there are 8 different possible part numbers for each visor depending on if the car is built in the US or Korea, what trim level the car is and what the interior color is. It will be impossible for them to tell you if they have the specific part number for you car without a VIN.

This is a common enough problem now that most dealers should stock the most often replaced part numbers. We stock every last possible one for the US built Sonatas, both driver and passenger side, and one or two of the Korean built Sonata visors, as they are less common.

What I have found is the parts dept and service dept don't comminicate. Call the parts guy and ask if the part is in. I'm sure he'll say yes. Then ask to be transfered to service for an appt. Then fill out the comment card as needed. Don't fret....just be proactive.

Bingo... We tell the advisors that their customer's part has come in, and it never fails that they don't ever call the customer to let them know and schedule an appointment.

Craig is right, call the parts dept to check on the part, then talk to your service advisor to schedule an appointment.

That's wasted $$$. Service writers make commission on the services they sell. Not on warranty but you may need and oil change, trans flush, etc with your part changeout. The Dealership owner benefits from this as well. Somebody needs to go to the whippin' post. :shades:

FILL THE COMMENT CARD OUT AS NEEDED. :rant2:

I had the same thing happen with a lock actuator. Called parts lo and behold it was in........? That's why I do my own services.

Yes but do you service others as well? :57:

Happy 4th of July to you and the F24S.

Now I know what that means. You're a nut!

Same thing happened to my wife's 06 Sonata. Late last year, the drivers visor went somewhat limp and wouldn't stay up. Small piece of plastic broke, dealer took care of it two months later during our next oil change. Under warranty too!

Get your visor(s) replaced. The new one(s) is redesigned.

In my 2006 both have failed. Both times they were fixed at no cost. I called the dealer and he had them ready to pick up I dropped off the bad visor, already taken the old one off to keep it out of my line of vision.

It's a quick fix, 3 screws and an electrical connector less than 5 minutes.

Had the same problem about two months ago on my 2008 Ltd Sonata. Took dealer about 10 minutes to replace. Yesterday, my passenger side visor went limp as well. Now have to get over to dealer again before leaving for a two week trip to the beach. Ugh. And I thought that 15k mile service took care of everything when I went two weeks ago. At least it didn't happen on vacation I suppose but still a little frustrating.

The driver's side visor on mine started to go limp about a week ago. Took it to the dealer and they ordered one, no questions. I guess this is my first warranty repair...
