Anyone know how to tighten up the driver's side sunvisor so that it will stay put. On my 91 Civic, all that has to be done is tighten a phillips head screw and it's good to go. I don't see any adjustment screws on my 06 Sonata and I'd rather not have to take the time to make an appointment with the dealer for what would seem an easy fix. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You own 3 Different Hyundai Cars?.

I have only broke Hyundai Visors. Otherwise they work

great. There is no adjustment I am aware of. Are you

still within the 1 Year adjustment Period?.

Yes, I am the proud owner of 3 Hyundais...I think they are great vehicles. I even talked two of my brothers into buying used Elantras and now they too are big Hyundai fans. This sunvisor problem is the only issue I have ever had on any of them....and yes I am past the 1 year adjustment period.

Temp. fix may be to wrap something around the male end (like elec. tape ) and push into clip.
Until you get to dealer.

A friend of mine who also has an 06 Sonata had this same problem. He took it to the dealership and they fixed it under warranty, even though he was beyond the 1 year mark. Probably varies from dealer to dealer.

Also, he had to wait several weeks as the part was backordered... that makes me think this is a fairly common problem.

Hello All,
We are also the proud owners of a 2006 Sonata V6, a few days ago my wife and I were in the car together running a few errands. It was a very sunny day ( living here in florida it gets that way ), and even though we had sunglasses on, my wife decided she still wanted her sun visor down. When she started moving to a downward position, we both heard a small 'pop' sound. At the time we didn't think much about it, but since that day the visor has became even more loose, and now refuses to stay up at all. I've sent our dealership an e-mail about it, just waiting to hopefully hear back from them. It seems like more and more items on cars nowadays are being made out of plastic. Which most of it over time becomes brittle, etc. and fails. I sure wish like other members have stated here, there was still an adjustment screw of some kind.
Thanks for listening,
David :)

Dear meg,

Thank goodness for friction tape! See:

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_U...Xbe70Q1MK7N3Ngl

1 wrap on the tip of the visor is barely visible and stops the drops!

I guess I need to see what our dealer will do about this....to me this is a poorly designed part.

Off topic, but my sister has a 2006 sonata, I have a 2007 sonata, my grandpa has a 2008 sonata, and my mom as of yesterday has a 2008 sonata, and my dad will be getting the genesis coupe when it comes out. My family is OBSESSED with hyundai. What even funnier is when we have 4 sonatas parked outside our house, it looks like we're shooting a promo commercial for them

The driver's side visor on my 06 broke one day when I put it down (Had the car about 1 year). Small piece of plastic landed on my lap and the visor hung down like a limp ****. I was going on a trip the next day so neede it fixed ASAP. The dealer replaced it that day. No charge. Luckily they had one in stock. The service writer said it happens regularly here in AZ. He installed it right there in the drive in about 10 minutes total. So now I guess I have annual sunvisor replacement to look forward to.

It it's on the driver side I would say without a doubt it is a safety issue and dealers should not hesitate to get on it since lawsuits could result from accidents etc.

Yes the Visors break, and you can snap one in a second, especially with

the 'extenders', or on the Neck rest. Unless a part is defective,

if you are out of the adjustment period expect to pay for these types of repairs in the future.

I think it would be wise for any dealer to replace this if it broke, there's a difference between an adjustment and a part breaking. Especially with a part that would be hanging down in front of your eyes while driving, like Sonata_Guy mentioned it could be a borderline safety hazard.

You'd think that if having a recall over the label that's on there they wouldn't have any problem fixing this. If the visor was completely ripped off that would be another story (or other obvious signs of abuse).

But we all know how most dealerships are ...

And they should replace Headlamps that Burn out, and perform

free Brake Jobs too in a perfect World. I'm sorry when you break

something you are responsible. The 'limited' Warranty has its limits. :57:

Mine did it too, I heard the crack. Dealer is going to fix it but I am goint to wait until my 30K service and do it all at once. To hold it up in the interim a pen will do the job. Thread it through the opening where the little metal hinge sits next to the visor in the upper left. One end of the pen should be on the windshield, the other on the underside of the visor. Replace the pen every 10 days or so.

You can't use the visor but it does stay in place.

No question this was "cheaply" done by Hyundai. But, we all have to face what we bought. We bought a really fast, really cheap mid size. Personally, I love mine but mainly because I paid $12,700 for a 2007 Limited with 17K miles. Had I paid sticker (I am not sure anyone does) I would be tweaked about some of these little annoyances.
