 Radio Reception, Poor AM Radio reception

Having problems with the radio reception in AM. Lots of static and intermit reception. Any suggestion on how to fix, or check?

New to the forums and I'm hoping someone can help with an OEM 2005 Elantra am/fm cassette problem. I'm getting the worst AM radio reception I've heard on a vehicle in many many years. Tape works fine and the FM seems decent. Not seeing any cable/antenna issues and the AM does seem better when the engine is NOT running. But still very poor at best. Is this common or do I need to replace the unit? Any help appreciate and thanks much in advance, Lee.....
