The car was given to me from a friend, it wasn't well maintained, has 170,000 miles and some problems.

The girl who owned it lived on a street with a dip at the end and it would regularly catch somewhere under the car and make a horrible noise. The car leaks oil in the front when parked (in several different places). I believe it may be that the oil pan is badly dented or even slightly punctured, is that possible? Is it expensive to buy a new one, or hard to replace it? Without looking at it personally I'm assuming it can't be that hard and that oil pans can't be that expensive. But what if the new oil pan won't fit onto the old part that it goes on to (no idea what it's called) because it too is dented?

Any insight?

Oil pans can get dented, but in most cars the chassis is lower than it, so it should not hit.

A common place to leak is from the valve cover gasket, or from the crank or cam seals.

Valve Cover Gasket = oil in spark plug holes, oil on the top of the engine on the head, or near the injectors.

Cam Seal = Leaks near the top on the engine in the front, remove the timing cover to see.

Crank Seal = leaks near the bottom of the engine on the front. Its much harder to remove the timing belt cover but it will leak out near the oil pan

Oil Pan = should only be leaking on the pan itself, if there is oil above the pan then it check the other stuff.

Changing the oil pan is relatively hard and will require some time. I've never done it on a Hyundai but you might have to remove the front crossmember, I am not sure. But I would definitely check the other leaks first.
