Hi, I am a new(used) Elantra owner. For "the first time in decades" the lot at my daughters flooded. Being the good mom I waded in to save the car. The water was "only" up to the console and only for the few minutes it took me to move the car. I took the car home and removed the seats and carpet. Originally the seatbelt bell dinged like crazy and the airbag light was on. After drying out, the dinging is normal, the airbag light is on and the ignition key cannot be removed unless the battery ground is disconnected. I got a new used airbag control module, under console, but no change. The engine runs great, it appears the water problem is interior. Any ideas? I saw something about a ATA Keylock control module and a BCM. Could it need these?
Thanks

Hey,

If the car was flooded you should take it to the dealer's and have them check it out (connect it to comp and stuff). You said the water was up to the console - tell us exact water hight please for better understanding.

cheers

The water was up over the airbag control module, which I already replaced.

OK we put a new neutral safety switch in and that did not help. A co-worker helped me switch wires so the switch on the "override" side is being used as the primary. The key can now be removed in park! He hooked a code reader to the car and it said no codes. I guess I have to bite the bullet and go to a dealer to have the air bag module re-set. I hate to think about that bill.
