yup, I just got hit with the same quote here in the UK Hyundai want £380 for the 40K miles service... :w00t: I nearly fell through the floor.....my car is less than 2 years old and has so far cost me over £1000 in servicing.

I have since been to my local trusted back street garage and the guy there thinks that after 2 years the fluids flush is NOT something he would advise? He thinks it's a waste of money?

However....If I don't get it done wil it void my warranty? I am getting really miffed at how much servicing this car needs and the prices Hyundai charge...That **** warranty is costing me a lot of cash....

you do not need to do a transmission flush for another 48 000 kms. The wheel alignment is for the sake of your tires mainly. A small amount can cause uneven wear or scalloping on your tires. You don't have to have this done at a Hyundai dealership, but keep records, and make sure after the alignment is done your steering wheel is straight, and there is no pull in either direction.

At 48 000 you should be having the brakes serviced, the calipers are a moving part and when they seize you are looking at doing your brakes (rotors and pads minimum), and there is no warranty on your calipers if they are not maintained.

This service also includes having your coolant replaced, this is not a flush it is a drain and replace, but the Hyundai coolant life is only good for 50 000 kms. Also the air cleaner filter needs to be checked, if it has been replaced recently it doesn't need to be changed. The rest of the service is inspection of the brakes, fuel lines, transaxle oil, exhaust, suspension mounting bolts, power steering, etc. Most of this is still covered under your warranty, and should take an hour to an hour and half to do. If you don't want to bother with the inspections, you should at least be getting tires rotated, oil change, coolant and possibly air filter change, as well as the brake service. Price these out individually, keep your receipts for work done. Skipping the "inspections" shouldn't void your warranty, but the mechanics should notice a wearing part and replace it before you start having trouble or get stranded. Especially in a province where there aren't annual safety inspections done on vehicle.

Personally I will never do a tranny flush and would opt for the drain and fill. I read too many horror stories of people getting it done then having transmission problems shortly after.

Only thing is i have free oil changes, but apparently this is only honored at my dealer, that being said ill get rest of stuff done, then maybe call dealer for oil change only

Dear Santa,

For US delivered Hyundai Santa Fe's, we get a Scheduled Maintenance table in our owner's manual towards the back of the manual. These are the required services to comply with the normal maintenance requirements to keep your warranty in effect.

This does not preclude the service writers at the US Hyundai dealerships from telling us that the transmission flush is 'good for the vehicle' or 'make your transmission last longer' or even thinly veiled threats on our warranty. I bring in the owner's manual every time and challenge these up-sell attempts. Pulling out the manual and challenging the service writer to show you in the book is a very effective technique to shut down bogus up-selling.

A lot of the service you are getting charged for is inspecting: hoses(check) belts(check) leaks (check) Fluid levels (check) suspension travel (check) ...mostly things that you could do yourself or at a non-Hyundai shop for far cheaper. To keep your warranty valid in the US, you merely need to keep the receipts showing the service was performed, or receipts (dated) for items like air filters, oil filters, oil changes, even transmission flushes.

One word of warning: Your Santa Fe really prefers that SP-III transmission fluid, and hates almost everything else with the the exception of Castrol ATF+4. IF you get a transmission fluid flush outside the dealer, make sure you verify what type of fluid the shop is installing and that it meets or exceeds Hyundai SP-III standards.

Byron

"These are the required services to comply with the normal maintenance requirements to keep your warranty in effect. "
Not really in the US. ONLY if the dealer will do these for free, is it required for the "dealer" to do these for warranty to remain in effect. That was solved back in the 80s with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
A lot of these are checks but anyone that can offer proof that the items were replaced (fluids/parts) will keep your warranty in effect. At 48K you should check the brake pads and most likely they may need replacing. But my wife's Subaru Tribeca with 52K had only half worn pads. I replaced them anyway as I bought a set. You want high prices for checkup... try a Subaru.
I'll have to check the requirements as this Friday when I got for an oil change at 16K.

I'm taking mine in today for a 30,000 mile service and dealer says they have to replace coolant for warranty. The owner's manual says, "For the first time replace the coolant at 60,000 miles or 60 months and then every 30,000 or 24 months after that".

And $150 for a coolant flush you can forget it! :w00t:

Is the tranny flush necessary at 30,000 for warranty??

Hyundai recommends a drain and replace on the coolant, not necessarily a flush. However, follow what your manual tells you, or if you feel like your dealer is scamming you, call customer relations for Hyundai and inquire with them.

I was at our local Hyundai dealer today and I noticed a sign saying prices for the trans axle oil change, tranny fluid change and coolant flush and fill. The prices seemed reasonable... around $69 or $79 for each one. Maybe it would pay to shop around a bit for lower prices.
