the only way to find out why the CEL light is on is to get the code read at your dealer, however if the car is running o/k it's unlikely to be anything to worry too much about and it won't do any harm to drive it

Ok just got the car back from hyundai -
The sensors had went off because some fumes were ascaping from a small hole on the exhaust flexy pipe.
this was replaced £220 and now the malfunction warning light has gone off.

You would think everything was now ok right - wrong,

now the parking/break light on the dash is staying on, it is on more than it is off.
dont really want to go back to hyundai so soon as I am now low on money

any ideas?

The parking/break light on the dash is being turned ON whenever your handbreak lever is pulled-up or when your break pedal is depressed. These have switches to trigger the dash monitor. You can isolate this.

If you depress the break pedal and your tail light is working properly, then it could be your hand break switch. Or if your tail light is always ON even if hand break and break pedal are not activated, then its the break pedal switch. Locating the switch maybe tricky. This could require you to unscrew some covers.

If none of the two did not led you to the problem, might as well save some bucks and bring it again to the service center.
