It worked on the following in my cars (on the rugs/seats) and got rid of all smells in a short time. Vomit, baby formula, chocolate shake, and probably the worst I ever had....cat urine!

What kind of parties are you throwing in that poor vehicle?!

Did the lysol thing work on your Sonata?

For the most part yes. There are days however when I can still get a tiny whiff but nowhere near as bad as it was before the Lysol.

Maybe a second blast will do the trick.

Hi
We just had the same problem. The first time we took it in they told us it was the filter. Only after 1 yr they said it needed replacing. Ok that cost $75. The smell went away for a bit but it then came back. I decided to live with it.

However a few weeks later the A/C became intermittent. It would work and then in the afternoon it would not come online for about 10 min. So I took it back.
What they found out was that the "Thermister" was freezing up an was not draining properly.

The smell is just about nonexistent now.

Also after they replaced the Thermister the A/C blower went a wk later.

Hope this helps

Robert

PS we also have to replace our tires at 19K Ouch! And we are not aggressive drivers

Being an auto a/c tech for 29 years, I have to say that DWD2 is the bomb when it comes to deodorizing an a/c system. It absolutely works, and smells the best when compared to other products. Not sure who distributes it, but if you google the name, you will get lots of hits. Probably can get it on ebay? Hope this helps,

Isnt that the foamey 'scrubbing bubbles' looking stuff? The DWD2 Ive seen used is for cleaning the evaporator and has to be sprayed directly on it. Hope big of a pain is it to get to the evaporator on the sonata?

We have the same stick problem as well. I am going to try the wiki solution that was posted earlier in the month. We di d replace the filter and I am going to check the compressor as well. Hope this works.

That DWD stuff looks interesting. I'm waiting for a can of Einszett Klima Cleaner to arrive and hopefully that will rid me of the smell for good. There's not much left but heck, might as well.

I'm too lazy to check the rest of this thread but another member told me about this product and I read up on it. Looks pretty good.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Has anyone here actually used DWD2 (besides robtemple). It looks really interesting. Mep got the funk recently and I'm really thinking about trying this stuff out.

According to the November 2000 Motor Trend article about the stuff, it can be done at home or it can be "installed" by a dealer. Apparently the "installation" involves drilling a 3/16" hole in the evaporator core case and installing the nozzle. Then, subsequent uses require only the aerosol can. $60 up front and $20 every six months sounds like a deal to me. Any other opinions?

robtemple, have you actually done one of these installations before (maybe even on a Sonata)? If so, how involved is the process? BTW, what is your role at the dealership? We can always use another insider's viewpoint.

I have performed many of these treatments, unfortunately none on Sonata's. Yes, I'm a (almost Gold Certified) Hyundai technician for that last 6-years. Previously,I was a tech at one of our other stores as an Acura tech. The Acura owners were a little more concerned with the cleanliness of their evaporators, hence I performed many on these vehicles. It is critical to drill the access hole in the correct spot (don't want to hit the evap).
