Now here's a surprise:

I was finishing the purchase of my Genesis today when the sales manager informs me that the 60 month/60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty doesn't include the stereo system or the navigation system (apparently Hyundai has some intriguing design that doesn't include either of those systems between the bumpers!...<g>)

I would not have been quite so shocked had I not specifically asked my salesperson if it was covered, and he said it was.

I was about to cancel the deal and leave because Hyundai was quoting me an $1100 price for a five-year 60,000 mile warranty that included everything, but the sales team said they'd be willing to include the warranty at no additional charge since I had specifically asked and had been misinformed.

I do think this is a serious problem and a major mistake on Hyundai's part; this AV/Nav system is sophisticated and thus has many more things to wrong, and for them to push the Genesis as an upscale car and then not include the electronics in the advertised "bumper to bumper warranty" creates a lot of customer ill will.

Don't let this one slip past you, Tech package buyers!

All Hyundais come with only a 3/36 warranty on the sound systems. I understand the Genesis system is far more complex however, and figured that they would have included it for at least the full 5/60. The fact that they didn't doesn't suprise me though.

So this may sound stupid, but doesn't Hyundai have the 10/100 warranty? Is it only the Genesis that has this 5/60?

The warranty is somewhat chaotic. Electronics are 3 yrs / 36k miles. "Bumper to bumper" is 5 yrs / 60k miles. Oil-lubricated mechanical components (really just engine & transmission) are covered for 10 yrs / 100k miles. There are also different values for body rust and paint. I don't know what those values are off-hand.

Paint is 3/36, rust (anti-perforation) is 7 years/unlimited mileage.

And the 10/100 includes more than just internally lubricated parts, it covers all of the drivetrain, which includes water pump and driveaxles as long as the CV boots aren't torn, along with various other parts.
