Hello everyone,

This is my first post to this forum. I am trying my best to help a friend out, he is the one who actually owns this vehicle. He is in a bad place right now and needs this vehicle to work properly-which sometimes it is so bad it will not stay running at all.

His SES light is on and has been on, and all I wish to do is get the codes.

I have found two sources of information on the internet. One is a pinout of the proprietary hyundai diagnostic connector pinout. Pin # 10 is the ECU diagnosis on/off connector, and another website says to ground out this pin to begin the diagnostic flashing.

However, when I ground this pin out, the light doesn't blink, flash, or do anything. (but it does stay lit, however...)

Here is the website for the trouble codes:
http://www.troublecodes.net/hyundai/

Is there any way to retrieve the codes cheaply on a 1992 S Coupe?

I and my friend would greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Thank you!!

Dave

Please guys.. I know this has been discussed here-I used the search function but nobody ever came to a resolve outside of a real expensive code-reader. Is it possible to even retrieve the codes using a paperclip, or is it some Hyundai-specific computer that needs a code reader no matter what?

Hello,

The instructions on that website are the same as what I have been doing. Grounding out the "L" connector-except when I do it, nothing happens with the Check Engine Light. Is it that the 1992 model year needs a code reader-no exceptions?

The problem is that neither of us has enough money to let the dealer do it. It would be a GREAT help to us if we could get the codes, but shorting the L connector just isn't working. The light just stays on and does not blink.

Thanks!

P.S. How are things in the UK?

Dave

how much are you being charged by your hyundai dealer. I'm sure ECU check cost me no more than £30gbp

It's raining alot but it's fun for drifting!
