2006 V6 GLS - 16MPG 100% city (Boston, heavy traffic), 27-31MGP Highway. 27MPG was achieved when I was driving from Boston to Chicago, cc set to 75MPH (however I drove thru Indiana speeding about 100-110MPH). I'm getting 31MPG when I'm driving around 55.
Needles to say, I've gotten another car and I'm going to sell ma Sonata:(

I never look at estimate highway MPG but rather the city one as 90% of my driving is commuting to work (10 miles one way in super heavy, bumper to bumper traffic). Every car I had including the Sonata was getting 2-3 MPG less than estimated.
The reason I sell my car is because we're going to have a baby in the next month and I needed a bigger car (in terms of cargo capacity). I wish Hyundai was making a wagon version of Sonata, i would definitely buy it as I really like it. I don't like SUVs and big vans (to big and the mileage is bad) so I finally decided to get Mazda5. This car is actually more amazing that I thought. It's city MPG is 21 and I'm actually getting almost 23MPG in the same driving conditions and the suspension is much better and agile than the Sonata has. I miss my V6 but can live with I4. I've found the buyer for my Sonata and he's going to pay a really decent price for it.

Hey craigbrooks, I'm not mad, just jealous. I'll see what I get tomorrow headed for Grand Forks, ND. Plus I can hall 3 grandkids in the back seat just fine. BTW I would sell my 06 V6 LX for $14500!?!?!?! 23000 miles!

Nice choice on the mazda5, they're actually a lot nicer than I expected them to be. In the same class of vehicle, I would also look at the Kia Rondo, lot of fun to drive, but suffering some of the same niggles such as soft/thin paint, zero aftermarket and little quality control goofs. But the Rondo is very cheap for what you get. Do you have more than one kid? I can't imagine needing more cargo room than the sonata has for only one child, lol. I was a step-daddy of two for a while and I can tell you that two strollers, a sub enclosure, three amps, diaper/baby bag and a coleman cooler all fit happily in the trunk, leaving plenty of room in the cabin for me, her and two brats.

I bought my 2007 Sonata Limted for Less than $14500 with 30K miles. If you can get 14500 for it than congrats. Overall, you should probably look at Edmunds, KBB and (mind went blank on the other site), to get a resonable price. I would say about $11.5K is what you get for it. You can probably price it at $13K and give yourself some room to negotiate down.

QUOTE(brihvac @ Aug 11 2008, 03:34 PM) I have a 06 GLS I4. I get, what I feel is, horrible mileage for the I4. Im thinking of getting a 09 with the 5spd auto to get better mileage. I get pi$$ed when I read here about people getting 30+ mpg out of their 6cyl and I get between 24 and 26mpg out of my 4cyl. and thats all hi-way miles. I dont get why I get such bad mileage. I have tried driving the speed limit and everything. Nothing works. Im hoping its just MY car. I would love to get a 6cyl but since my 4cyl gets such horrible mileage Im afraid to get the 6cyl. If I can get 30mpg I will definitly get a 6cyl. I have never seen a car get over the EPA rated mileage. Thats why Im leery about the 6 and 4.
Also, does the 6cyl have a timing chain or a belt?
I just completed my first highway cruise. Total trip including some city short hops was 38MPG (Imp gals) which would calculate at about 30MPG (US gals). My best fill up was 43MPG (35MPG US) and worst was 35 MPG (28 MPG). This was over a total of 1400 miles. I drive an 08' I4 - used air con the whole way and had both traffic and mountain pass terrain. Currently have about 3600 miles on the car. I get a consistent 24 MPG (US) in town running back and forth to work. You should get much better milage. Have you checked your airfilter. If it's plugged or dirty it can really hurt the milage. This is probably the biggest reason for poor performance. The trouble with the computer controlled engines these days is they compensate for our failings in maintenance - but they can't give us our fuel back. Darn!!!!

Ijust one, i just needed more cargo space in terms of dimensions (moving large objects, etc) and flexibility. That's why Sonata Wagon would be a perfect choice for me. I actually test drove the Rondo before I got Mazda, however it doesn't handle as well as Mazda. The interior quality was better than expected thought. I also read that the gas mileage is significantly worse. M5 is better equipped (i got Grand Touring with leather, xenon lamps, automatic AC, rain sensing wipers, homelink etc for22,500$ with 0%APR). And the sliding doors are really great. It's amazing how easy it is to install a car seat. In my opinion it was a great deal.
