Have had our i30 1.6l crdi for about six months now and am very pleased with it. I have always serviced my own vehicles (often in remote areas) and have plenty of experience with diesel 4wd's in particular. However, looking at the i30 engine bay, I can't see how to easily spin off/on the diesel cartridge filter as it has a 'shroud' around it. Is there some sort of trick to this - am sure that it can't be too complex! Maybe one has to remove air intake pipes to make room? Certainly the oil filter is easy to replace and there is no reason that the diesel filter should not also be.

Any advice on diesel filter removal would be much appreciated!

dham,

Not certain how to replace filter, but I do know it is a cartridge type similar to most diesel 4WD engines. It does look rather hard to get at I know. I had my whole filter unit replaced under warranty to fix a problem that caused the motor to limit itself to about 2900rpm due to air bubbles forming in the fuel filter (so I was told).
