Hello all,

I'm a current owner of a 2000 Sonata GLS (soon to be sold) and a future owner of a 2003 Santa Fe GL.

I am picking up the Santa Fe on Friday but I know it comes with a transmitter that doesn't work (and looks terrible!).

My question is, which remote should I be looking for as a replacement? I've seen simple 2 button and 3 button remotes.

Also, does my vehicle have an alarm? If it has keyless entry does it automatically have an alarm?

Thanks for the help!

Firstly, congratulations on your acquisition.

Not sure if your GL has an alarm but if it has the remote keyless system, I'd bet you dollars to donuts that it does.

There are actually three styles of remote for the SM body Santa Fe. Allow me to break it down for you:

2001-2002: 2-button remote (no Hyundai logo)
2003: 3-button remote; logos printed on and easily wear off - 'HYUNDAI' is stamped at the bottom
2004-2006: 3-button remote; logos stamped in and do not wear off - Hyundai logo is stamped at the bottom.

Luckily for you, the version with the stamped buttons is compatible with your 2003 and it's crappy printed icons. :w00t: Here is one for sale on eBay.

Programming instructions are here. Just FYI, the switch they are referring to is just above the OBD port under the driver's side crash pad.

Good luck.

Thank you so much lovemysantafe!

I'll wait until I pick it up tomorrow and see if I can get the transmitter it comes with to work.

Any way to know for sure if it has a security system? Any hardware to check for?

Thanks again!

You are very welcome. You are going to love your Santa Fe. I'm out of town for six days (it's only been three so far) and I already miss mine terribly. I have a Kia Sportage for a rental car and even though it's a nice car, it's just not my beloved Santy. 98,000 miles and she hasn't once failed me. I'll keep her forever.

Here's a test to see if yours has an alarm:

- Park the car and roll the driver's window down.
- Get out and lock it using the remote.
- Unlock the door from the inside and open it.
- If the alarm activates, then you'll know. To shut it off just press the unlock button.

OK. I pick up the Santa Fe today and I'm thinking now that it doesn't have keyless entry. The module under the dash (near the fuse block) has a sticker that says 'OFF SET' but I dont' see a button. It seems to be hollow underneath the sticker. Is the switch under there or is it covering the hole where the switch should be?

Also, I didn't see the hood switch for the alarm that I've heard people are having problems with.

Any thoughts???

Sounds like you don't have the factory system. Sorry...:(
