I ordered a pizza today and I realized that the total price included a delivery fee of $1.70. When I ordered a pizza about three years ago, there was no delivery fee. So I was hesitant to give a tip based the total price, or based on the total price minus delivery fee.
The total price including the delivery fee was $25.01, but I gave the delivery guy $30.00, which included about 18% tip.

What would be the reasonable tip amount?

Let me know what you guys think.

I heard that minimum is 5 dollars but you should generally tip as you would in the restaurant. I'm still confused as to whether or not I should consider the delivery fee as part of the tip.

The delivery guy was early with sizzling hot pizza.

When you order room Service in Hotels they tack on a an 18% gratuity charge.

Yet they still should be tipped. But if they charge a fee for delivery, generally

the driver gets to keep that as well. You are a good tipper it seems, and that the

Pizza was hot is excellent! Was it good?. Where did it come from. What toppings.

I just read Pizzeria Uno is going Bankrupt now!

Hello, Miami.
I ordered the pizza from papa johns, which is the closest pizza place to my house.
The pizza was good. I had three larges one topping, with pepperoni, italian sausage, and mushroom. I actually like hawaiian BBQ from papa johns. But I would like to see more local pizza places than franchises.
I usually tip 18%. When I'm with my friends, usually more than two, I usually tip 18% plus 1 dollar.

Pizzeria Uno going bankrupt? no way. I thought about going to Chicago just for a pizza.

The delivery fee goes to paying the drivers the extra money for the cost of gas. I usually tip 15% or double tax (it's 7.75%) but i usually order from my work and the pizza place is across the street.

It takes 20 minutes to bake my pizza, and another 5 to deliver it. Normally I do get it withing 25-35 minutes, when they say 30-45minutes. Lately I have been getting it 1.5 to 2 hours later and it's not hot, just warm, so i have only been tipping a dollar or two. last time i ordered pizza the guy came in and told me i was his last stop because he wanted to get his lunch in the mall. I was mind boggled..

I even tell them when they leave if they were here even in 45 minutes i would tip them more money.

We also tip in a restaurant based on how well they fill up our water glasses. My boyfriend and I can drink a lot of water, and probably need our glasses filled about 3 times each since we don't order soda. So if a place just places the order, gives us our food, then hands us the check, we normally tip half because waiters are garnished a certain percent from their checks, so I don't want them to lose money, but they wouldn't deserve the tip either.

If the service is excellent you should tip 15%, but if they don't deserve it, don't give them that much. It's like the waiter feels they can give minimum service and still have their normal tip.

Considering I work retail as a store manager, and the service i have to give based off of my companies standards, I get a little more critical on service i get in other places weather it is food or other retail stores..

Wow I have heard of people getting Murdered over tipping like you do.

How could you taunt them with more money if they would have come sooner?

One day you might find a special topping in your Pizza. A secret sauce perhaps.

And that you do the same at Restaurants with Water.

I think tipping pizza delivery and tipping at a restaurant are two different things though. I consider myself a genuine tipper, when I go eat in a restaurant by myself or with friends, even when the service is between unsatisfactory to mediocre I still keep it 15 percent, and if it is excellent I go to 18 to 20 percent, at times more. But pizza delivery, on the other hand, is not like sitting in a restaurant. Basically the guy/girl knocks on the door, hands you the pizza with a smile, thanks are exchanged, and it's over. Therefore I think 15 percent is a good way to say "thank you for driving here with my hot pizza". I agree if the pizza is over an hour late then the person does not deserve a good tip. About the delivery fee if the driver gets to keep it as mentioned above, then it doesn't need to be included in your calculation for tips, in my opinion. Glad your pizza was good ! :460:

I delivered for a well known pizza chain part time and I have a few things to say.

1. Just because you get your pizza real late does not mean it was cooked a long time ago and sat around. Sometimes it will sometomes it wont especially when the dinner rush is 60 pizzas an hour.

2. Delivery drivers remember who the big tippers are and that may or may not help in the future no guarentees.

3. I tallied all my deliveries versus what the company paid and I was making 2.36 from tips alone after 2,159 deliveries in 6 months putting 7,463 miles on my car and averaging 73 miles a night.

4. I was delivering with an 87 nissan and gas was about 1.75-2.00 a gallon in 04-05, I had a good gas saver and I made money of the .70 cents a delivery from the company.

5. Keep in mind the wear and tear on the vehicle, more oil changes, struts, etc.

6. When the weather is bad I loved Delivering, People felt sorry for me and tipped better but It was risky.

7. Out of 2,159 Deliverys I was only robbed one time at gunpoint without a company light on the car, he was waiting for me, he called it in and we delivered except it was the bushes he called from on a cell. If he would have taken my car he might have gotten caught, yall know how cars get quarky when they get old. I was smart enough to not advertise in a neighborhood that might be dangerous. e even had a few places that we had to deliver before it got dark otherwise we wont deliver and tell the customer they would have to pick it up. This is do to research and if there is trouble with deliveries it can blanket the neighborhood with a No-Go after dark. Dont know if all pizza places do but Mine did and we had a few.

8. I made 775.00 of the .70 cents a delivery after paying for my gas in the 6 months. I probably spent close to 700.00 with car maintenance or if I would have someone else fix my car I definately would have.

9. Some areas just dont tip well and its known but I was lucky It averaged 2.36 tip per delivery and ranged from .89 cents to 3.80 for total average delivery tips for the night but the 10.00 tippers made up for the 1.00 tips.

Actor Sal Mineo was killed by a Pizza Delivery guy.

"Arrest in Mineo's killing
A pizza deliveryman, Lionel Ray Williams, was sentenced to 57 years in prison for killing Mineo and committing 10 robberies in the same vicinity.[10] Although there was considerable confusion relating to what witnesses had seen in the darkness the night Mineo was murdered, it was later that prison guards reportedly overheard Williams admitting to the crime.[7] Williams claimed he had no idea who Mineo was. Williams was paroled in the early 1990s, but was soon jailed again for criminal activity"
