Lost one of my key, need a replacement

Hey guys,

I've lost one of my key fob two years ago. I went to the dealer and a replacement with programing would have come up to 450$ all in. I didn't want this kind of money. At the time, I called a few key makers around and they weren't able to reprogram a new key.

Is that still the case? Where do I start my search? I've seen a multiple of keyfobs on eBay, but I'm not sure about the programming of these.

Thanks

BTW, it is not the push to start model.

To the best of my knowledge, you can't just program one key fob. Both keys have to be reprogrammed to the vehicle. At least that was my case when I got a new key fob off Ebay a few years ago for my Sonata. And the dealer here only charged me somewhere about $50 to $100 to do the programming. I can't remember exactly. But $450 is a rip. The price of a fob from the dealer is absurd, so there are plenty of good options on Ebay although I don't like Ebay.

EDIT: I didn't notice you are in Canada. Prices are much different there.

Good Luck

I take it that this is a "push button" start car (Smartkey) ??

Snartkey remote is more expensive,, due to what they do for RKE function,, and unlock immobilizer to allow engine start.

Canada price don't help either,, you could try and get PIN code & key code from dealer, then cross into USA, buy Smartkey here, have us cut key, and attempt program of Smartkey (need both Smartkey at time of program,,, as soon as we enter program mode, slate is wiped clean)..

The OP says in the last line that it is NOT a push to start.

Do you need a 3 button or 4 button key fob? By the way, you will also have to have the emergency Key that is in the fob cut and you will need the Key Code to have it done. Here is a video about that.

Here is decent price on a new 4 button which is what I had on my Sonata. I did not have to have the key cut as I was just replacing a non working key fob.

Related question:

I have a 2016 SFS just bought CPO'd from the dealer.

It has (2) normal 3 button FOB's .
It also has an aftermarket 1 button Compustar Remote Starter FOB. (dealer installed)

Is there a single 4 button FOB that will operate all normal FOB car functions
and this remote starter? (so I don't have to carry two FOB's)
