I have a 97 tiburon and its not shifting into overdrive. I've heard it could be an overdrive solenoid but im not sure. Does anyone have any advice on what it might be?

It is possible it is a Shift Solenoid, But I would take a look at the switch on your shifter
I have seen were the wire under the shifter get pinched I left a picture below. Hope this
helps.

I have had the same issue with my 2000 tib, I bought it like that but only paid 1200.
I changed the pulse generator, flushed the trans ( big mistake DO NOT FLUSH THE TRANS). A trans flush can make it worse. Most places do a reverse flush and it can ruin the transmission. This is what I have been told by multiple mechanics.

New shift knob with the o/d control, checked wiring, even replaced the ecu and trans computer. Turns out bad TRANS.
From what I have read the AUTO trans is terrible in these cars. After the fact, I found out the bad trans I have is the 3rd one in the car.
I only use it for work and rarely go over 50mph in it, so it doesn't really effect me I turn the o/d off so it doesnt try to shift into the high gear.

Before dropping money into it and trying to track down the problem, take it to a legit Trans place and have them look at it. I dont have the time or money to worry about mine right now, but it also might be cheaper to find one from a junk yard and replace it, but you never know if it is good.

I hope this helps as I spent a year and a couple hundred dollars trying to figure this out. Don't want to see anyone go through the same as me.
Good Luck
