Purpose of blinking arrows on rearview mirror

When I open or close my garage with the rearview mirror button, it blinks an orange arrow on the mirror pointing up or down corresponding to what the garage door is doing. It continues to blink until the door is fully open/closed. When setting it up, I recall it saying it only does this with certain openers. I guess mine is one of them.

Is there any point to this other than maybe showing it's working? I mean, the door is within sight so you see it operating.

My '20 Sonata did not have this. My '23 does.

Mine flashes orange a few times when opening or closing, then stop even if the door is not fully open or closed. And I had to push the program button on the opener since the opener uses rolling codes.

Rolling Code Programming
•You may need a ladder to access your garage door opener.
•You may need help from a second person.
•Be prepared some of the steps are time sensitive.
1. Firmly press and release the “Learn”, Smart”, or “ Program” button
of garage door opener on the ceiling while the indicator 7 flashes
in Green. Once the button is pressed, you have approximately 30
seconds to initiate the next step.

Ok. This isn't what I asked, but I thought it was relevant and interesting. I went back to the manual tonight just to check. I didn't recall it saying there was a purpose to the lights, just that they blink corresponding with the activity of the garage door. Turns out, if you sift through it all, there's this in the manual:

4 = down arrow
6 = up arrow

Recalling Garage Door Status
Homelink mirror with two way
communication provides a way to view
the last stored message from the garage
door opener. In order to recall the last
known status of the last activated device,
press the buttons “1 and 2” OR “2 and 3”
simultaneously.

• If the indicator (4) is ON continuously
in Green, it indicates that the last
activated device was “closed” properly.

• If the indicator (6) is ON continuously
in Green, it indicates that the last
activated device was “open” properly.

I know I had asked what the point of the blinking lights was. In light of this information, I'm thinking it's to confirm that the door's state is being registered. (?)

More than you ever wanted to know about rearview mirror garage door indicator lights! I'll move along now...

I'm committing this to memory. I just know it will come up as a final question when I'm on Jeopardy. :ROFLMAO:

So my mom has a ‘21 SEL Plus with convenience and I have a ‘22 N Line. I programmed her car to my garage for times I’m out of town and she’s checking on the house. Anyway, her mirror shows the up and down arrows. My mirror, however, does not. I’ve always thought it an odd difference between the two models.
